There’s a lot of crap we have to do before college starts. One thing I have to is take an online alcohol education class.
Let me state this now: an alcohol education class is totally reasonable for incoming freshman. A lot of students starting college, I’m sure, are overwhelmed at the freedom. So having a class that discusses safe alcohol use is important.
This class was absurd.
First of all, some of it was an unnecessary waste of my time. Alcohol education? No. Topics included sexual harassment and stalking.
It was intrusive. In order to make the class more personalized, there was a survey that asked very personal questions then generated advice for you. I doubt the website was programmed so that the advice given to me was completely appropriate for me specifically.
“You may or may not feel that you are in a position to change your drinking habits, but there are a lot of benefits to cutting back. There’s also a lot you can do to be more careful about how you drink.”
Some questions:
“14. When you drink, to what degree do you do the following:
Monitor your BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) to reduce drinking-related problems.”
“Do what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statements:
“Acquaintance rape” is simply an unfortunate misunderstang between two people.”
The course was also included MANY really cheesy videos. The only purpose it served was for me to mock. It wasn’t beneficial or entertaining. It didn’t offer new information; it just reiterated the same information that was in text boxes on the screen.
And I only finished the first half. I have to finish the second half at some point.
